On my daily “waste of time internet search” I found this really interesting software from “Gleetchplug“. They have rebuild a nearly complete studio environment from the 50ies as a software. It’s called “Berna” and the video they posted on their site speaks for itself … and the price (around 10 Euros only) should prevent nobody to buy and try it! You got virtual oscillators, delays, tapes, mixers, noise generators etc. Looks like fun and (if it sounds good) it could be a very creative tool.
Hey everyone.
I’d like to start a little series here for all the producers out there who might be interested in the little helpers that some friends and I use for the daily productions in our studios. You might expect really expensive preamps or heavy rare to get monster synths. But we’re talking about the real bargains! For example a russian drum machine that you got for 80 Euros on a flea market. Or a delay that sounds so strange and unexpected that you use it more often than your top notch 2000 Euros multi effects processor? I’m often surprised how cheap it could be to get unique sounding tools.
There have been a couple of revivals from that decade in the last years, but most of the times it had been just a very sketchy one. Like I said with “Les Disques du Crepuscule ” it had been one of the most creative moments for popmusic. Dadaism, Performance Art and Minimalism found their way into the mainstream and the subculture was very spirited, too. Nowadays there are a couple of very passionated fans who are reclaiming these vivant undergound. Some years ago i stumbled across the great compilation “Lost Tapes – A Compilation of European Minimal Wave from ‘81-’86 ” at the rushour recordstore in amsterdam.
That’s how it all started … just seen this (maybe already well known) video and having a lot of fun. Starring: Westbam, Jam-El-Mar (from Jam&Spoon and born in Karlsruhe by the way …), Snap, etc. It’s still “kind of” the same than today but see for yourself:
Hiya all you Tits, Twats, Tweets, Followed One’s and Followers,
let’s pretend we’re all already Web 2.0.9. and the future has been sufficiently dealt with yesterday morning. This is my „microblog“ post about one of the most overrated media services on this planet called: Twitter.
In short: it’s a fricking one way road and because of that the most arrogant, self-indulgent ego-tripping platform to date. It’s digital dictatorship. You speak, we listen. You command, we obey. You say jump, but I won’t ask how high, because More … »
As i am not being a big fan of posting charts our admin really had to use all tricks to convince me to do this. It is a bit the same like posting dj mixes from clubs in the internet as i think there should be some myth left in what music a dj is playing and there should be a uniqueness in the moment to attend a certain clubnight. Anyway here are some current favourites of mine: More … »
Oh my god (I’m not used to say that but in this case …): I NEED THIS ITEM!!! A fully portable turntable. Just what you need if you bought some new stuff at THE local record store and want to check it again before you gonna play it the night. You can even digitalize it immediatelly (if you really need this …).
For a lot of people the 80ies had been the most creative period in popmusic. A lot of things were possible and borders had been teared down. The belgian label ” Les Disques du Crepuscule ” was at the forefront of the interface between music and art. Benoit Hennebert the famous illustrator was responsible the visual appearance and Michel Duval and Annick Honore for the artistic programation. Lately we travelled to Duesseldorf to see the big Sonic Youth exhibition. On the next day we went to cologne to visit a couple of galleries and only by accident we passed by the “Koelnischer Kunstverein”. From outside we could see the logo from the label so we went in and actually we dicovered one of the best music related exhibitions we have ever seen.
