Episode VI
Hi Everybody,
I hope you’re doing good. Apologies that I didn’t write earlier.
I just came home from Cannes, France. I was attending Midem, a music fair or what is left of it. My head’s exploding, I have a lot of ridiculous stories going through it. And believe or not, I managed to do some business down there. More … »

Slow to Speak is a record label run by Paul Nickerson and Franics Engelhardt out of NYC. They are also running the great record store called Dope Jams. If you are in New York you should take the sub to Brooklyn to visit their shop. It is a very special place with a very spiritual atmosphere inside. This sounds wack for you? Then you probably dont have any heart or passion for the music.
Besides the label Slow to speak there also exist the sublabels Gay Records,Feed.back and Celebrate Life, where they do strictly limited represses from popular rock and pop artists. I become an addicted collector from this series and its not easy to get them in europe. My favourite one is definitely the Siouxsie & the Banshees record.

While checking the website Waxidermy (incredible source, by the way. Thanks Sinan!) my attention was directed to a musical collective called The Entourage Music & Theatre Ensemble. If my not so spiritual brain understood it right it was founded to create music on “flow energy and dream state experience”. However: They usually performed in theaters even with dancers which you can see in the video section of their website (let’s say: the website someone built about them …). It’s really incredible music and the records seam to be really rare (If somebody out there is selling some, let me know!!). Something between electronica, folk, jazz, classic, … you can listen to there last album on there website. But please check this and this track immediatelly. Great stuff that could maybe have been part of the Grandfather Paradox. Next time!
I need those records … good night!

Well, like every year around this time musical nerds are watching the webnews regarding the stuff been presented at the NAMM Show in Anaheim. And as every year, all of us are hoping for the even more achievable, more practical, bigger and better sounding (ultra fat, subtile but with some dirt for sure), incredible looking (vintage but modern) tool that should make the music so much better, automatically, you won’t believe.

Over the last years we became really good friends with the people behind the famous Club11 in Amsterdam. We played there regulary in different combinations and some of the nights were pretty memorable. I even invited the guys to Germany to stay at my home for a couple of days but they never accepted the offer till today.
After the phenomenal closing in june they left a big gap in the nightlife of the town. Now they found a new location in the centre of the city and they will open probably at the end of february. Olaf and Daan will do the job and during my last visit at the end of december they showed me the venue. It is the building from an old newspaper, but the building was empty for a while now.

Unbelievable! Detroits Funk and Soul top label Tamla Motown gains 50 years old since yesterday. And the fatal thing is that I didn’t knew it personally (and had a BIG marker in my schedule) but have to read it on the german online newspaper Spiegel! Motown is one of the most influential labels in my musical career … and by the way host of the one album that gave Innervisions its name.

Today I’d like to anounce a new project that’s about to be released on BBE. Thanks to Pete Adarkwah who asked Henrik, Dixon, Kristian and me to compile a CD with some of our influences and favorites. After many ideas we decided to focus on true minimal tracks in its original meaning: not todays “so called” Minimal but minimal music that has been created in the past 50 years and is produced only with few elements. This contains tracks from lots of pioneers in electronic music like Raymond Scott, Conrad Schnitzler or Kurt Dahlke (aka Pyrolator), so called “classical” or “serious” music by Steve Reich or Moondog, even Jazz (Henrik found a track by Yusef Lateef that is so minimal that you can just play it today) or a bit more up-to-date techno tracks.
